I've been knitting for 10 years, and have made a zillion hats, scarves, blankets, and even a few ponchos, but have never knit a sweater before. It always seemed like this huge complicated task that I was sure to mess up.
Recently a yarn shop that I admire started offering a "My First Sweater Follow Along" and I decided to join it and try to expand my skills. They sent me some yarn, barber cords, and the PDF pattern for the Coloring Book Raglan, step-by-step videos and other helpful tools. I learned to do a German twisted cast on, short rows, raglan increases, splitting for the sleeves, stretchy bind offs, etc.
I had trouble with "rowing out" on the short rows section due to tension issues with my purl stitches, and I had to redo that section. I still have a few wonky rows but it turned out better the second time.
In all the sweater took me two months to make, but I finished it and learned so much!
I've already started knitting another sweater and it is going way faster and easier since I'm "experienced" now.
